Retrieved 19 May The Art of Noise. Anne Dudley J. Who's Afraid of the Art of Noise? The band are a multimedia informant machine, and this bonny baby has learnt to crawl, and it won't be long before it walks The album is all over the place stylistically, as alluded to in the reviews below, and maybe that makes it hard to love as a collection of songs.

I disagree. And I also think the whole is held together by Mr Jones' vocals, which sound endearing and impassioned, without tipping over into fake histrionics. Production values are very s, but that isn't a bad thing.

When the album was released, it had been a long time since I'd heard drums recorded and played like this. Long like 16ths on a ride cymbal! I don't play this much, but I'm glad I own a copy, and it floats into my consciousness every now and then. In fact I'm going to go and put it on now! I don't award 5 stars lightly, but this is right up there with my favourite albums of all time. It consists of 10 extremely good songs.

There's nothing particularly unusual about their style, indeed the band name may have diverted attention from the fact they were very straightforward musically, generally playing radio-friendly guitar-based stuff with a bit of T-Rex glamour thrown in for good measure.

What's not common is that from start to finish it delivers on all the basic components of a great record. Excellent melodies, a near perfect blend of musicianship and production, and the ideal combination of full on pop-rock numbers and chill out tunes. Personal favourites would be 'Pathfinder', 'Dimstar' and 'Oh Jim'. But it seems harsh to leave out the other seven, so consistent is the quality here.

It's like they went into a magical music warehouse and picked out everything your average joe would choose to have on a great record. And then bizarrely found very few people willing to buy it See all reviews. Unlimited One-Day Delivery and more. There's a problem loading this menu at the moment. Learn more about Amazon Prime.
